Life seemed to take something of a giant lurch forward this week (hence the title), and my mind is presently racing to keep up. It was my first week as a doctoral student, d.w. and I started taking Bradley classes, we're now seeing our midwife every other week, the zygote's room is almost done, and now you can actually see the little guy squirming when you look at d.w.'s belly. All in all, a crazy week in a bazillion ways.
It's all taking just a little while to process, so for now I'll leave you with a quick anecdote:
I have a feeling the childbirth classes are going to be very, very interesting. I had expected a room full of eco-feminazi types — you know, like d.w. :) — so it was a little surprising when half the people there introduced themselves (without being asked) as born-again Christians. It's not that I have anything against finding meaning in one's life, you understand (well, unless you try talking to me about it — we Episcopalians aren't really that big on Bible-thumping), but I must say that when it was my turn to introduce myself, I just had to include that I'm getting a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology. I know, I know. I can be totally passive-aggressive sometimes.
Next week I think I'll take my Nalgene bottle with the "Fight the design, join the evolution" sticker. And I definitely need one of these:
What, too obvious?
