So the dear wife and I have been looking into WIC, so that we can better provide nutrition for the zygote. Most of the associated programs are, admittedly, pretty standard and wouldn't be that interesting to comment on.
There is, however, a pretty surprising one: a farmers' market program that allows pregnant women to buy local organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Of course, the benefit is only $10-$30 per year. Makes you wonder if it is even worth the hassle of signing up. It also doesn't cover meat or dairy products, so you still have to use regular food stamps for those. And they only pay for antibiotic-infused, factory-farmed generics. Oh well. Better than nothing, I suppose.
I guess we have the "Ownership Society" to thank. Clearly, the dear wife's and my financial situation is a result of our own lack of ambition and "hard work". Oh wait. We're both full time government employees. Huh.
Am I the only one who thinks it odd (and not a little alarming) that the government pays so little that we qualify for government assistance? Wouldn't it be easier just to pay more in the first place?
The wonders never do cease.
