I just saw that my university's football coach just got a raise of $200K a year, to a tidy $1.1 million. Guaranteed for four years, no matter what.
Said university has paid its teaching assistants $17,000 a year for as long as anyone can remember.
That's all I'm saying.
But do TAs bring glory and prestige to the university? I think not :-) It takes lots of money to have a coach that gets a team ALL THE WAY TO #40!

THIS is why our country is in such a state. That kind of shit just makes me want to barf. What's so wrong with making $17,000, anyway? Who do you TA's think you are? As if you think you DESERVE to make more? That football coach works HARD for that $1.1 million, HARD, I tell you.
(ha ha, had you goin there, didn't I? I am cracking myself up over here.)

Wow, does that mean he now makes more than UofI's coach. Does that mean he has now the highest paid Iowa governement employee? That would be crazy.

No, U of I's coach is still Iowa's highest-paid state employee, at $2.7 million a year. In. Sane.

"Education is the silver bullet. Education is everything. We don't need little changes. We need gigantic revolutionary changes. Schools should be palaces. Competition for the best teachers should be fierce. They should be getting six-figure salaries. Schools should be incredibly expensive for government and absolutely free of charge for its citizens, just like national defense. That is my position. I just haven't figured out how to do it yet." -Sam Seaborn, West Wing
It's no wonder that when we spend so much on violent sports and so little on education that we end up with the highest incarceration rates in the world.

*Sigh* I wish Sam Seaborn were our president.

I guess they can't sell as many seats to the Academic Decathlon as to the next football game.
Maybe the geeks should start throwing rulers, or blowing things up. That would get some folks interested.

Not to um, (what is the opposite of bragging?) not brag, and I certainly think the coach's salary is ridiculous, but I make NINE thousand dollars a year as a "teaching fellow." Even more than a "GA" if you can believe that. Hence, the 4-5 other jobs any given month.
