Wow, it's been a while. I've been much better keeping up on flickr than here it seems. New toys and all, you know.
Anyway, Chins is four months old now, and I've decided that were he to stay this age forever, I would die a happy man. Every day he discovers something new. Actually, every day he discovers 8 or 10 new things. He wakes up in the morning a wriggling little bundle of bright eyes and smiles, impatient to be picked up by his dad to have a little naked time while he gets changed. He can then barely contain himself while we walk around the house, opening all the curtains and saying good morning to "Mr. Sun".
Of course, what he really looks forward to in the morning are all the commuters whizzing past our house. Better than television. Oh god, he isn't going to go through a NASCAR phase, is he? Sigh...
So yesterday morning Chins discovered the cats, which precipitated his rolling over for the first time yesterday afternoon. We were having a little pre-bath naked time (his third favorite time of day, after morning naked time and "hey would't it be fun to poop all over my clothes so Dad has to remove them" naked time), when he turned his head to the right and saw our graceless cat Tequila lying there minding her own business.
Summoning energy such as I've never seen at the end of the day (I think he keeps special energy stores in those cheeks -- fat is 9 kcal/gram, you know), Chins reached out with his hand toward where the oblivious cat was lying. With a gutteral "Gurgh...aaaagh!", there was a violent twist of the torso, sending his left leg over his right.
Chins teetered on his side for a second and then crashed to the floor, two drool-covered hands and a gaping mouth catching Tequila square in the back. The cat freaked and took off, leaving a slightly disoriented Chins lying prone on the carpet.
I looked down and saw Chins beaming goofily up at me, his drooly mouth awash in cat hair, the look of adrenaline-fueled conquest in his eyes.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring.
Where's the video of this one?! Don't you keep it running all of the time just in case of a moment like this?

Love the drool/cat hair combo. My cats are old and cranky and lie on my bed all day. Which makes them right at eye and hand level for my kids to mess with them. I had to provide a safe haven--a basket with a few old towels--in the back of the closet for them (the cats, not the kids).
